A swill special enough to be packaged for the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, the Chivas Regal Royal Salute is a 50 year old Scotch with smoky anise and raisin flavors. Only 255 bottles were made, 10 of which were destined for America,where collectors eagerly poured out $10,000 each.

“Peaty and powerful,” with overtones of sweet toffee and dried fruits, Macallan’s 1939 is a 40 year old first bottled in 1979. In 2002, it was added to the distillery’s Fine and Rare line and re-bottled. It can be found today for around $10,125.

Police, Emergency Services, Hospitals and Entertainment Venues etc. where the Public are together in large numbers, use Some Secret Codes to pass information between The Employees.
These are meant to be a Secret as they don’t want to Alarm the Non-Staff Members or Alert someone (like a Thief) to the fact that they have been noticed. 

But there are a Number that are nearly Universal in Application. This is a List of Ten Secret Codes that may prove useful to you in future or at least dispel any curiosity you may have if you hear them.

10. Code Adam

Code Adam was invented by Walmart but it is now an internationally recognized alert. It means “Missing Child”. The code was first coined in 1994 in memory of Adam Walsh, a six-year old, who went missing in a Sears department store in Florida in 1981. Adam was later found murdered. The person making the announcement will state “we have a code Adam,” followed by a description of the missing child. As soon as the alert is heard, security staff will begin to monitor the doors and other exits. If the child is not found within 10 minutes, the police are alerted and a store search begins. Also, if the child is found in the first 10 minutes in the company of an unknown adult, the police must be called and the person detained if it is safe to do so.

9. Wal Mart

WalMart gets its own item on this list because they have a large number of codes that are store specific. Some of their codes should not worry you. A code 300 calls for Security and a code Orange means there has been a cheamical spill. But here are the ones you really need to worry about: Code Red means there is a Fire in the building – get the hell out if you hear this. Worse still, a code Blue means there is a Bomb in the Building. Exit swiftly but don’t run – in case they think you planted it. A code Green means there is a hostage situation and a code White means there is an accident.
The one you are most likely to hear is a code C which is simply a call for customer service (usually meaning that more cashiers are needed). And finally – the most famous WalMart code… well, it’s so famous it needs its own item.

8. Inspector Sands

Inspector Sands (or Mr. Sands) is a code for Fire in the United Kingdom. Obviously it would not be appropriate for the service staff of a store to announce a Fire publicly, so this code is used to alert the appropriate staff to the danger without upsetting customers.
The wording differs from place to place and in the Underground network a recorded “Inspector Sands” warning is automatically triggered by smoke detectors. In some shops you will hear the code used in a phrase such as “Will Inspector Sands please report to the men’s changing room” if the fire is in the men’s changing room.

7. Code Bravo

Code Bravo is the code phrase for a General Security Alert at Airports. Unlike most of the codes on this list, the code is meant to cause alarm – but not through knowing what it means. When this alert is raised, all of the Security Agents will begin to yell “Code Bravo” in order to frighten the passengers.
This is supposed to make it easier for the agents to locate the source of the problem without interference from the general public. For those of you who travel on ships from time to time, you may like to know that Code Bravo means “Fire” and it is the most serious alert on a ship – if it burns, you either get off or burn with it. Ships also often use sound signals, such as 7 short and 1 long, meaning “man the lifeboats”.

6. Code Oscar

On a ship, a Code Oscar means someone has gone overboard. If the ship has to maneuver erratically to handle the situation, it must also send out blasts on the signal so that other ships nearby are aware of the fact that it is about to change its course.
It should be noted that ships don’t have an internationally standardized set of PA signals and they can differ from place to place, but this is a fairly commonly used one. And a code Delta can mean that there is a biological hazard, though who knows what that might be on a passenger ship. And finally, Code Alpha often means “Medical Emergency”.

5. Doctor Brown

“Doctor Brown” is a code word often used in Hospitals to alert security staff to a threat to personnel. If a nurse or doctor is in danger from a violent patient or non-staff member, they can page Doctor Brown to their location and the security staff will rush to their aid.
In some hospitals, code Silver is used to refer to a person with a Weapon and code Gray can mean a violent person without a weapon.

4. Code 10

A code 10 in Hospitals can refer to a mass casualty or serious threat (such as a Bomb Alert), but the majority of people experiencing a code 10 will do so for another far more common reason.
A “code 10 authorization” is made by a merchant when he needs to call a credit card company to enquire about your card. This means that he is suspicious of you or your card and doesn’t want you to know it while he gets it checked out. When the credit card company hears that they have a code 10, they will ask a series of yes/no questions to the merchant in order to find out what the situation is. This will often result in the merchant keeping your card if they believe it is safe to do so. This type of call often results in a call to law enforcement.

3. Time Check

Time Check (usually taking a similar form to – “Time Check : The Time Is 12:00″) can be a code in stores for a Bomb Alert. It alerts the staff to follow the bomb procedure, which can be to either try to locate any suspicious packages or to prepare to get the hell out. If you hear a time check in a store, it is probably a good idea to start moving toward the exit.
Surprisingly and shockingly, the majority of stores that use this code actually expect their staff to search for the bomb. Certainly an aspect of the job that the majority of teenaged checkout operators weren’t expecting when they signed up, it is sure.

2. Professional Codes

In computer support, a variety of codes can be used when referring to a customer. One of these codes has become fairly well known on the internet – PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair). But there are a variety of others that are lesser known.
One of these is used when reporting a fault which has been fixed – “The fault was a PICNIC” (problem in Chair, not in Computer) or “ID 10 T Error” – ID 10 T is of course, IDIOT.

They are available on the Internet which would make them seem inappropriate for this list, but a large number of Police Departments have tried to have them made illegal for distribution, so they deserve a mention. The California Police use a variety of Extra Codes which predated the “Ten Codes”. For example, a 187 (one eighty-seven) means Homicide. In the ten codes system, a 10-31 means that a crime is in progress, a 10-27-1 means Suicide (the 10 is usually not said when it is a three-number sequence), and a 10-00 (ten double-zero) means “officer down – all patrols respond.”

1. Dharavi, Mumbai, India

Sprawling over 175 hectares between Mahim and Sion, Dharavi has emerged as the largest slum of Asia inhabiting a population exceeding 600,000. Dharavi has its rival in Orangi Town in Karachi, Pakistan that has a notorious filth and expanse. Dharavi presents a brighter picture as a cheap pocket in the midst of expensive Mumbai where you could stay for as low as 4 US dollars rent per month.

Dharavi is an abode for various small-scale industries like pottery, embroidered garments, leather and plastic goods. Unbelievably the total net income of the residents of Dharavi amounts to almost 650 million US dollars. But Dharavi is no paradise – its inadequate water supply and toilet facilities get worse during the monsoon floods and the unhygienic environment of Dharavi poses serious threats to public health issues.

What makes Rocinha a potentially dangerous place to live is the prevalence of a violent drug trade. This leads to endless tussles and encounters between the drug peddlers and the police, giving rise to a dangerous ambiance. The population of 100,000 has a poor economic state and high mortality rates. What is more, Rocinha being built on steep mountain slope is susceptible to landslides, rock falls and floods.

3. Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya

Kibera means Forest in Nubian, is the home for a million people, which earned notoriety for being the biggest slum in the whole of Africa. Most of the population here are tenants with no rights living in mud-walled shacks owned by landlords who have vacated Kibera. Most of the population is African Muslims, who huddle up eight per shack, often sleeping on the floors.

Just 20% of Kibera has electricity and no regular supply of clean water. The dam water that people use is the root to cholera and typhoid, aggravated by poor sewage condition. There is widespread menace of AIDS and the total absence of government medical facilities. What worsens the general livelihood of Kibera is the availability of a cheap alcoholic drink called Changaa.
Faced with rampant unemployment, most of the slum-dwellers resort to Changaa early in life and grow into criminals, drunkards and rapists. The problem is aggravated by the availability of cheap drugs and tendencies of glue sniffing. The result is the rising rate of unwanted pregnancy among girls of all ages who invariably turn to abortion. Some charities and churches are working towards the betterment of the condition.

4. Linfen, China

Located right at the center of Shanxi Province of China coal region, Linfen is one of the most polluted cities in the world. The air is thick with dust and smoke to a degree that hampers visibility. The three million people who live in Linfen take regular doses of arsenic rich water, further polluted with fossil fuels and poisonous gases through the air they breathe. You can actually catch a lasting stink when you step in Linfen with overflowing sewage everywhere.

The river flowing by Linfen has its water thickened with oil. No wonder! The inhabitants using this water have high occurrences of cancer. When you look at the trees around the Linfen factories, they present a sad withered picture. It is the last place on earth that you would think of sending someone, even your worst enemy.

The lead and cadmium accumulations in this former British colony have skyrocketed since their discovery in 1902 when Zambia was valued for a rich lead mine. Although the mines have closed and no smelters are operational now, Kabwe residents have faced the threat of lead poisoning through decades.

Blood tests in the children have revealed lead concentrations exceeding 5-10 times the normal limit that could turn fatal any day. Only recently, the World Bank has allotted funds for tackling the problem.

Talking of life-threatening pollution and poisoning, nothing could beat the nuclear reactor accident record set by Chernobyl that has left about 5.5 million people facing the threat of thyroid cancer. The fallout that occurred in April 26, 1986 has led to the leakage of nuclear radiation 100 times more pronounced in volume and effect than that of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki explosions.

It is a horror that thousands of Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian children living close to the damaged plant still cannot escape the radiation impact.

7. Dzerzhinsk, Russia

Situated beside the Oka River in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast of Russia, Dzerzhinsk is named after the Russian leader Feliks Edmundovich Dzerzhinsky. Right From its inception, Dzerzhinsk has remained a chemical industry hub and has been producing chemical weapons for Russia. It has been labeled one of the worst polluted cities of the world with a staggering death rate.

In Dzerzhinsk, the average life of men is just 42 years and women 47 years. Environmentalists attribute such high mortality rate to the ceaseless production of organic chemicals like toxic dioxins, hydrogen cyanide, lead and sulfur mustard. The phenol and dioxin contents in the Dzerzhinsk waters surpasses the normal limit by seventeen million times.

8. Cubat, Paulo, Brazil

The city of Cubat extending over 142 square kilometers is more appropriately known as the Valley of Death for its precarious living conditions. It has a high air pollution level that has led to the destruction of forests over the surrounding hills and birth of children with congenital organ defects.

The life threatening pollution took a new dimension in 1984 when an event of oil spill burnt down the town, killing almost 200 people. Only recently extensive steps worth $1.2 billion are being taken to improve the damages caused by organic pollutants. Despite such measures, it is quite impossible to clean the soil and underground water from the spreading tentacles of pollution thus making Cubat=E3o unfit for staying.

9. Bassac Apartments, Cambodia

One of the architectural jewels of Cambodia, the innovative apartment complex designed in the early 1960s by Lu Ban Hap.

The 300-metre-long Basaac Apartments were built due to the town planning director Lu Ban Hap=92s initiative to put up a low-cost social housing project in the 1960s. However, this government-financed housing project has been the home to 2,500 refugees since 1979, when its legal tenants vacated the property because of the onset of decay. The structure made of concrete and brick has now given way to dangerous gaps in between the reinforced concrete walls marked by the ingrowths of parasitic plants. The building can collapse any time burying alive its 2500 residents.

10. Mogadishu, Somalia

A rusty and bullet-ridden Coca Cola sign gives a telling welcome for visitors to the volatile city of Mogadishu.

 

Mogadishu, an advanced former port has been witnessing the 17-year tussle between rival military camps since the fall of the government in 1991. It turned into the most chaotic and anarchic city of the world, marked by civil unrest and insurgencies. Such disturbances caused its original inhabitants to flee, leaving Mogadishu to be controlled by military factions. Only recently, a new federal government has taken up the reins of control and is trying to re-establish law and order.

Fruit Corso Festival of Netherlands

Every year on the 11th, 12th and 13th of September, a festival called "Fruit Corso (means Fruit Parade)" is held to celebrate the harvest of the Fruit of all the Villages in Tiel, Netherlands.
It includes a Parade of Cars which are decorated with Fruits. A Unique Event whereby Fruits, Vegetables and Seeds are used to make Beautiful Floats.

The Fruitcorso annually attracts the attention of more than 100.000 visitors 

and is thereby one of Netherlands biggest events.

The Fruitcorso has, besides the improvement of the tourism in this area

a very important social and cultural function.

History

The godfathers of the Fruitcorso Tiel are Bernhard Bruggeman and Joop van Hesteren.

The first Fruitcorso took place in 1961 and nine villages in this region attended.

Soon it became a matter of honour for all the villages in the surrounding of Tiel to make a float as well.

They established Corso Associations and the designers tried really hard to make the best design.

Soon the Fruitcorso has developed itself to a big and unique event

by which the participants try to take the wind of each other’s sails.

Explanation Foundation 4-Stromenland

Foundation 4-stromenland is an organisation directed by volunteers with a relatively small board.

The different tasks are divided within the board.

It is clear that an event like the Fruitcorso cannot be organised by such a small group of people.

Therefore almost all board members have formed their own committee, who, under their responsibility, perform some tasks.

These tasks partly exist of executive activities but also of policy preparation activities which are mainly focussed on following the strategy on the medium term.

There are within the Foundation 4-Stromenland, apart from about 2.000 of floats builders, several dozens of volunteers active.

Goal

The statuary goal of the Foundation 4-Stromenland is the promotion of the tourism in the ‘Rivierengebied’ (river area) on non-profit base.

To achieve this goal, the Fruitcorso is organised annually. The Fruitcorso has, except for this formal goal, also an important social function. There is a major involvement of the floats builders.

The board has therefore decided to keep the amount of floats the same or preferably increase it. This is also to make sure that there will be enough volunteers to organise the Fruitcorso in the future.

To guarantee the commercial basis and the financial continuity of the Fruitcorso on the long term the number of corso teams must be kept the same and the aim is to attract more visitors.
